In the mid-1980s, the absence of a church in Navi Mumbai compelled residents to travel to Thane or neighboring cities for religious services. Recognizing this need, a few Catholic families residing in Ghansoli took the initiative to establish a church in their locality. On December 3rd, 1984, a significant step was taken as St. John the Baptist Church in Thane acquired a plot for this purpose. The newly acquired land was christened "OUR LADY OF FORSAKEN CHURCH" in Ghansoli.

The church, recognizing the importance of this event, aimed to create a symbol that would not only represent the community's devotion but also embody the spiritual essence of the celebration.
The task of designing this significant emblem was entrusted to Cliford Thomas, a parishioner of OLFC. With deep reverence and creative insight, Cliford crafted a flag that would come to symbolize the spirit of the church and its congregation.
